Are you wondering how much it costs to travel on the A4 highway ? We checked the new tariffs! It turns out that the price list on the Krakow-Katowice route has changed, and we will drive the Gliwice-Wroclaw section under the “old” conditions.
Paid sections A4
Before answering the question about how much it costs to travel on this road, it is worth remembering that there are only two toll areas on the A4 highway . Despite the fact that the length of the road from the border with Ukraine to the border with Germany is 673 km, we will pay for travel on two routes, the total length of which is 223.5 km.
Where is the toll waiting for us on the A4 freeway ?
- Kraków-Katowice, managed by the concessionaire – Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska,
- Gliwice-Wrocław, which is the responsibility of the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways, so it can be said that it is a “state” section.

Why do I have to pay only on these routes? There are several reasons. Some sections of the A4 highway belong to city bypasses, and the use of these roads in Poland is not charged. Other sections, on the contrary, are too short – it would be inconvenient to put goals on them.
Price list of the A4 highway – changes in the following years
Tolls for using the motorway depend on the type of car we drive. Let’s start with the cost of travel on the A4 highway on the Krakow – Katowice section, because this is where the price list was recently changed.
The listed prices refer to the so-called manual payments, which must be paid when driving to the gate on A4 . Travel according to these tariffs is paid in cash, you can also pay by A4 card .
Until October 2020, a motorcycle covered this section for 5 zlotys, a car driver paid 10 zlotys, a two- and three-axle car trip cost 20 zlotys, and larger vehicles (trucks, etc.) had to pay zlotys. 35.
To understand the difference in the price list last year and this year, it is worth reviewing the tariffs for section A4 in 2021. Then the prices were as follows: Passenger cars and other two-axle cars – 12 zlotys, vehicles of categories 2 and 3 – 20 zlotys, vehicles of categories 4 and 5 – 35 zlotys.
The cost of the trip A4 2022
How much will the A4 autobahn cost in 2022? Currently, the A4 Katowice – Krakow is one of the most expensive sections of toll roads in Poland. From July 4, 2022, drivers will pay 26 zlotys (13 zlotys for each PRO gate) for the entire route by car. Only in the case of motorcycles, the price will not change (it is still 6 zlotys). However, tariffs are also higher for other categories of vehicles:
- categories 2 and 3 – fees increased from 22 to 24 zlotys
- categories 4 and 5 – increase from 35 to 40 zlotys
In summary, starting July 4, 2022, the toll for the A4 Katowice-Krakow highway has increased: for passenger cars by PLN 2; for larger vehicles – by 5 zlotys.
The cost of A4 and automatic payments
Drivers who want to save a little on tolls can use the so-called automatic payments. Competitive rates apply to payments by methods such as:
- A4Go – the fee is based on the accrued kilometers on the so-called on-board equipment, which can be taken “at the exit”,
- Auto payment – you make payments through a mobile application on your smartphone or other device,
- SkyCash is another mobile app that
- IKO is a service available in the mobile application for PKO BP bank customers
- Telepass is an on-board device that allows you to make automatic payments on the motorways of Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Italy and the Polish A4 motorway.

Drivers of passenger cars, who from July 4 of this year they decide to pay automatically: electronic A4Go, Telepass or video tolling (license plate reading) connected to the Autopay, SkyCash, IKO and mPay applications will receive a 23% discount. Autostrada A4 – the road from Gliwice to Wroclaw
How is the toll charged on the “state” section of the A4 freeway? Here, too, there are two options to choose from.
The first, manual collection, is calculated on the basis of the ticket that each driver receives when entering the freeway. Leaving the A4 road, he gives it to the employee at the “gate”, who calculates the fee based on kilometers traveled. The manual fee collection system supports cash and non-cash payment.
The Gliwice – Wroclaw section also has an electronic toll collection system, the so-called e-TOLL. The e-TOLL application can be downloaded from Google Play or the APP Store. A4 – price on the Gliwice-Wroclaw section
How much will we pay for the A4 motorway between Gliwice and Wrocław? On this route, on the A4 highway, the price list is regulated by the order of the Minister of Infrastructure. The driver of a passenger car will pay PLN 0.10 for each kilometer. If he wants to cover the entire route, he will pay PLN 16.20. A motorcycle driver will have to pay half of this amount to cross this section. In turn, the fee for the section connecting Konin and Stryhuv will be PLN 9.90.

Fares for this route have not changed compared to last year. It is interesting that this section is longer than the route from Katowice to Krakow, and its completion is much more profitable financially.
No more gates on certain sections of the freeway
Gate A4 ceased to exist on 1 December 2021 on the Wrocław (PPO Karwiany) – Gliwice (PPO Sośnica) section. The existing manual toll collection system has been completely replaced by an electronic system (e-TOLL), which we mentioned earlier. Car drivers must install a special application or purchase an electronic ticket for the freeway, for example, at a gas station or in certain stores.
How much is A4 on all paid sections?
Now let’s sum up all the costs. A car driver who has to cover the entire A4 route and chooses to pay on the spot will have to pay the following fees: Entire motorway: PLN 42.20, including Wrocław – Gliwice PLN 16.20 and Krakow – Katowice PLN 26. Motorway tolls when paid using the e-TOLL system are standardized in relation to cash tolls on the motorway. It is also possible to use the other automatic payments mentioned above – then you can count on a discount of up to 10 zlotys.
