A tachograph is a device built into a truck for measuring speed and distance and automatically recording them during commercial international or regional transport . There are two types of tachographs: analogue and digital (by law, all vehicles registered on or after 1 May 2006 must have a digital tachograph).
What is tachograph calibration and why is it necessary?
Tachograph calibration is setting up the equipment or activating it, installing software and carrying out procedures to ensure uninterrupted operation. Whether you are a sole operator with one vehicle or a company with a large fleet , a certified center can help you. Experienced technicians can perform anything from full routine calibrations to routine maintenance and necessary repairs to keep your device active. Look for a company that is an officially approved tachograph calibration center so you can have complete confidence in the technicians and their professional work.
What is the frequency of tachograph calibration?
All certificates indicating that a tachograph or CIPF device has been calibrated, the validity period of which expires from March 1, 2020 to August 31, 2020, will be extended by 6 months. Renewal begins on the original calibration date. The certificate, which expires on September 1, 2020, must be renewed in the usual manner. Analog models:
- Must be calibrated and sealed by an approved vehicle manufacturer or calibration center.
- Checked every two years.
- Calibration every six years.
Digital models:
- Must be calibrated every two years.
- Must be recalibrated after any repair.
- Needs to be calibrated when changing vehicle registration number.
- Needs to be calibrated if GMT time is missing for more than 20 minutes.
- Must be calibrated after changing tire circumference or characteristic factor.
You can contact a center for the production of analog and digital tachographs that are suitable for all brands of cars.
Stages of implementation
In cases where minor repairs are required, they can be performed at the warehouse of the logistics center. If replacement is required, technicians can safely install, seal and calibrate the new unit. To find out more about these and other services for commercial vehicles, write or call the number provided in the contacts.
Primary requirements
If you have a tachograph, some aspects of its operation will be subject to mandatory annual compliance testing. In addition, nationwide roadside testing is being carried out by local police. For this reason, we recommend that you carefully monitor your tachograph to ensure it is always in excellent working order. For standard care, we recommend scheduling an appointment every two years.
