The size of the toll in Italy depends on the category of the vehicle and the distance traveled. On average, 9 euros for every 100 km. Categories of vehicles in Italy

You can pay in cash in euros, but other currencies are also accepted. Most credit cards are accepted. The fastest way is to pay by card at cash registers marked Carte. If for any reason payment is not made, an additional payment is allowed. The driver is issued an invoice, which he must pay no later than 15 days. Viacard prepaid card
Another option is to pay with a prepaid card. You can buy a Viacard for €25, €50 or €75 at petrol stations, newsstands or some tourist offices. The card is valid until the prepaid credit is used up.
Telepass automated payments
Telepass is an electronic fare payment system. Thanks to the wireless device, the traveled sections of the highways are registered and invoices are subsequently issued. No need to stop while driving, just slow down to 30 km/h.

Penalties for speeding in Italy 2024
In Italy, the system of fines is very simple and clear. The speed of the section here is measured quite often, so the Italians themselves usually drive at least on the track in a disciplined manner. Speed cameras are prohibited here, but you can use a fixed radar warning system in your navigation.
Of course, the policeman can impose fines, but he has no right to collect them in order to fight corruption. The exception is foreign drivers, from whom he can collect a quarter of the fine. The rest must be paid at the post office or in the bank. If you do not agree, you can apply for administrative proceedings, but until then the police have the right to seize your car.
At night (10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.), fines for more serious offenses are automatically increased by 30% and in the event of an accident while under the influence of alcohol.

Use of tires in Italy
In the Val d’Aosta mountain region (on the Italian-Swiss-French border below Mont Blanc), winter tires or snow chains are required from October 15 to April 15.
In other regions, the same obligation applies from November 15 to April 15 and is determined by the relevant road signs.
The minimum tread depth of winter tires is 4 mm.
In snow, ice or ice on the road, the use of snow chains is allowed, the speed of the vehicle must not exceed 50 km/h.

- 0 to 0.5 ‰ – (professional drivers, drivers under 21 or with less than 3 years of experience) €164 to €663 with deduction of 5 points
- 0.5 to 0.8 ‰ – €531 to €2125 and driving license suspension for 3 to 6 months
- 0.8 to 1.5 ‰ – €800 to €3,200 and imprisonment from 6 months to 1 year
- more than 1.5 ‰ – €1,500 to €6,000 and imprisonment for a term of 6 months to 2 years
