Categorization of vehicles in Serbia/Price list of tolls in Serbia

The classification of vehicles in Serbia is based on the following characteristics:

• Number of axles (wheels),
• The height of the vehicle on the first axle, measured vertically from the pavement,
• The total height of the car,
• Vehicle mass

Motor vehicles of category 1a
with the characteristics of motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles.


Category 1 motor vehicles
with two axles and a height equal to or less than 1.3 m measured on the first axle,

vans with two axles and an overall height equal to or less than 1.9 m . , with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3500 kg

Two-axle vehicles of category 2
, the height of which is equal to or less than 1.3 m, measured on the first axle, with two-axle trailers,

the total height of which is equal to or less than 1.9 m, with a permissible maximum mass of up to 3500 kg with trailers

. with two axles and a total height of more than 1.9 m, a maximum permissible weight of up to 3500 kg.

Two- or three-axle motor vehicles of category 3

Four or more axles (including trailer axles) mechanical vehicles of   category 4, the height of which along the first axle exceeds 1.3 m, with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3500 kg.

The toll system can vary from motorway to motorway, but you’ll usually pick up a ticket with your location, date of entry and vehicle category at the start of the toll plaza.

Payment by cash or bank card for the use of toll roads in Serbia

Duty can be paid in dinars or euros. Payment is also possible by credit card, Master Card, Maestro, Visa, American Express, or Diners are accepted.

Electronic customs payment ETC

In Serbia, you can use the electronic toll system. All you have to do is buy a TAG deposit which is placed in the car on the windscreen and the fee is automatically deducted from the prepaid loan.

Drivers from the TAG depot pass through the toll station without stopping. The price of the TAG device is 17.19 euros. There is no minimum amount for top-up, with the exception of paid stations, where you can top-up at least 17.00 euros. A TAG can be used for multiple Category I vehicles, in Category II the device is tied to a specific vehicle.

Electronic tolls cannot be used at the Vrbas, Zmajevo (Belgrade-Subotica section), Dolevac selo and Brestovac (Nis-Leskovac section) toll stations.

Prepaid TAG packages

Authorized distributors, Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Serbia (AMSS), OMV, Euro Petrol and Tehno-Coop offer prepaid TAG devices. The list of authorized sellers can be found on the website  Putevi-srbije.rs .

AMSS  offers discounts from 4 to 10%:

• 4% discount when replenishing from 10,000 to 25,000 RSD
• 6% discount when replenishing from 25,001 to 50,000 RSD
• 8% discount when replenishing from 50,001 to 100,000 RSD
• 10% discount when replenishing more than 100,001 RSD

The maximum permitted speed on Serbian highways is 120 km/h, on highways you can drive at a maximum speed of 100 km/h, in the village – 50 km/h and outside the village – 80 km/h. Near schools you can drive about 30 km/h.

Fines for duty

Payment for the vignette is based on the ticket collected at the beginning of the toll section. If the ticket is not presented at the exit from the freeway, the maximum possible amount of the fine for this category of vehicles is charged on the corresponding section of the highway.
