How to get from Norway’s largest airport Gardermoen (IATA – OSL) to the city center or your hotel, wherever it is. In this article we will cover all the transport options from Oslo Airport, as well as some important details about the terminal itself for those planning to transit through it.

General information

The second largest airport in Scandinavia is located in the town of Ullensaker, 48 kilometers from Oslo. Every year, its services are used by about 25 million passengers traveling mainly to Europe, Asia and North America.

The airport today has 2 runways and a huge terminal with one of the largest European Duty Free zones. Modern waiting areas, free Wi-Fi, numerous cafes and restaurants, the airport terminal is equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay for up to 12 thousand passengers at a time.

Two piers handle domestic and international flights, and a third pier with an additional runway is currently under construction. Not far from the main Terminal there is a VIP terminal and a conference room for special occasions.

Despite the fact that Gardermoen has only one terminal, it occupies a vast area. To avoid wasting time on site, familiarize yourself with the layout of the arrival and departure halls in advance.

Buses

Gardermoen Airport is connected to the center of Oslo by a special Flybussen express bus route. Flights depart around the clock, approximately once an hour.

By paying 199 Norwegian kroner (approximately 20-21 Euros), you will reach the central bus station in 45 minutes – the Bussterminalen stop. Oslo train station is also nearby.

The bus stop at the airport is located to the right of the exit from the Terminal. Routes to the city depart from platform 12. You can pay for travel by credit card.

Train

The fastest way to get from the airport to the city is to take the Flytoget express train – the journey takes only 20 minutes. During the day, routes depart every 10-20 minutes and go to the central railway station, which is called Oslo S. Line operating hours: from 5:30 am to 00:50.

Tickets can be purchased at the airport from special machines: there is a choice of English; Both bank cards and banknotes are accepted. The cost of an adult one-way ticket is from 204 Norwegian kroner (approximately 20-21 Euros).

To find the train station at the airport, follow the Flytoget signs.

Taxi from Oslo airport

The most convenient way to get to your hotel in Oslo is by taking a taxi. This option will be especially relevant for those who are traveling in a large group, have taken a lot of luggage with them, or are traveling with a child. You can catch a car at the exit of the airport terminal building or call it in advance of the plane’s arrival on a specialized website .

The latter method is often preferable. The fact is that a taxi in Norway is not cheap : boarding alone will cost about 5 Euros. In the evening, at night and on weekends, increased rates apply.

If we add to this that local officials have been fighting taxi drivers for many years who do not hesitate to inflate tariffs for travelers, then “catch on the street” can cost a pretty penny.

When placing an order on a specialized website, the possibility of mark-ups is eliminated : the service calculates the tariff in advance, and it is known to the traveler in advance. If necessary, you can add a child seat to the car.

The driver meets passengers at the exit from the arrivals area with a sign with their names written on it.

At the same time, the taxi service independently monitors the flight landing time, and the car arrives at the airport exactly on time: options for delaying or rescheduling the flight are monitored by the receiving party independently. If a passenger is delayed at border formalities or baggage claim, the car will wait for free.

Car rental at Oslo airport

The Gardermoen Airport Terminal has counters of several large car rental companies, but on-site cars tend to be more expensive, and the staff is more focused on working with clients with advance reservations.

It is much more profitable to rent a car in advance through one of the popular car rental price comparison systems. Within a few seconds, the system will sort through the current offers of the largest companies at the airport itself and in the immediate vicinity and show what is available and at what cost for the required dates.

Moreover, the service brings the conditions of rental companies to a single form, making it easy to compare offers from different suppliers and avoid hidden fees. In 95% of cases, this approach helps to significantly save money.
