Questions and answers about the vignette in the Czech Republic

Can I set off immediately after paying for the vignette?

If you pay for your purchase with a payment card, then simply enter your car details, select the type of vignette, start date and pay. You will receive confirmation of payment by email or physically at the point of sale (where you can also pay in cash) and you are now ready to go.

If you have chosen to pay by bank transfer, you will only be able to use the toll sections of the motorways after receiving confirmation of payment, which may take up to 5 days to process.

Can I transfer my vignette to a new car if I sell my old one?

The vignette is not transferable between cars, so if the car is sold, the vignette will be valid for the car for which it was purchased.

Can I transfer a vignette to a new car when the old one is discontinued?

The vignette cannot be transferred from one vehicle to another.

Is the vignette valid for the entire first and last day of the selected period?

The beginning and end of the vignette validity period are indicated on the payment receipt.

If you buy a vignette with immediate validity, the date and time of payment determines the start of its validity.

If you use the option to delay the start of the vignette (you can buy it up to three months before the start of the vignette), the vignette will take effect at midnight on the day you have chosen.

The vignette always expires at 23:59:59 on that day.

Can I specify the start date for the vignette?

Yes, when you buy a vignette, you can specify the start of its validity. You can purchase all variants of vignettes at any time during the year, the validity period starts from the selected start date. For example, if you buy an annual vignette on 11/22/2022 with immediate effect, it will be valid until 11/21/2023 at 23:59:59.

You can delay the start of all types of vignettes for up to three months.

How do foreigners buy a vignette?

The e-shop is available in several languages, as are self-service kiosks. At physical points of sale, an employee will help you purchase a vignette.

Which cars are covered by the Eco price?

The Eco price (reduced price) applies only to vehicles running on natural gas or biomethane (including in combination with other fuels). The fee is CZK 750 for 1 year, CZK 220 for 30 days and CZK 155 for 10 days.

Can LPG vehicles also take advantage of the reduced Eco price?

LPG vehicles do not have any price advantage when driving on toll motorways in the Czech Republic. The Eco price applies to vehicles running on natural gas or biomethane (also in combination with other fuels). The fee is CZK 750 for 1 year, CZK 220 for 30 days and CZK 155 for 10 days.

Is my vignette still valid even if I change my car registration plate?

The vignette cannot be transferred from one vehicle to another. However, if you need to replace the registration plate on the vignette in the event of a physical replacement of the license plate if it has been lost, destroyed or stolen, you can do so. Just fill out the Registration Plate Replacement Notice form, attaching a copy of the document confirming the replacement (for example, a copy of a large technical data sheet indicating the original and new registration plate).

More information can be found in the Registration Plate Replacement Notice section .

What should I do if the vehicle has been assigned a transit registration plate?

If you need to use a toll motorway in a car with a transit registration plate, we recommend that you purchase a ten-day vignette.

What are the bulk purchasing options?

You can also buy vignettes in bulk with the ability to load up to 200 cars at a time (you can copy data from XLS, TXT files), where the number of sets is not limited. There is only an upper limit of 10,000 vehicles per bulk payment. In separate sets, you can specify different validity periods, types of vignettes or types of engines. Payment can be made by payment card or bank transfer. After payment, you will receive in one e-mail a link to download an archived (ZIP) file containing individual receipts for payment for the specified vehicles, which serve as documents for accounting and tax accounting.

Why do we not issue an invoice for the purchased vignette and how to include the vignette in accounting?

We issue a vignette payment receipt in accordance with applicable law.

A vignette is a payment, not a product or service, and for this reason no invoice is issued.

The payment receipt contains all the necessary details for clear identification of the accounting transaction and is an appropriate document for accounting and tax accounting. For example, you can attach a payment receipt to a bank statement showing a non-cash payment for a vignette, and use both documents to register the vignette in accounting or tax accounting.

Is VAT included in the price of the vignette?

No. A vignette is a payment, not a good or service, and is therefore not subject to value added tax.

Do I need to purchase a vignette for a special vehicle number plate?

Yes, even if you receive a special number plate (used by garages, car importers and car dealers instead of a regular number plate) you need a valid vignette. A special license plate can be transferred from a car to a car that is not yet registered and does not have its own registration plate. In this case, there is no violation of the law, and the vignette remains valid. Eligibility for the Eco price is confirmed during an on-site inspection.

After paying for the vignette with a payment card, there was no redirection back to the edalnice.cz website. What happens to my order?

We automatically and regularly check the status of transactions made with a payment card. If the payment was successful, i.e. the money was actually debited from your card, wait a few minutes and a payment confirmation will be sent to the email address you specified.

If more than 30 minutes have passed since the order, and you still do not see your vignette as valid in the ” Validity Check “, then the order will be canceled and the payment will be returned to your account.

I couldn’t find a form for notifying a person with a disability from purchasing a vignette.

If you have a disability certificate issued in the Czech Republic , then the vehicle transporting you is automatically exempt from buying a vignette, provided that you are a user of the vehicle or that the user of the vehicle is a person close to you in accordance with the current legislation (see § 22 of Act No. 89 – Civil Code / Collection of legal acts of 2012). Therefore, it is not necessary to file a Notice of Exemption, but the condition is that the holder of the disabled card must be in the vehicle when using the toll section of the motorway.

Can I pay for the vignette in cash at Czech Post offices, EuroOil petrol stations and self-service kiosks?

Currently, cash payments are accepted at all branches of the Czech Post and at EuroOil petrol stations where vignettes are sold. Self-service kiosks can only pay with payment cards.

I have a mistake in my vehicle registration plate or registration country, how can I fix it?

If your vignette has not started yet and you know the vignette authorization code that is indicated on the payment receipt, log in to the vignette management system on the edalnice.cz website. There you can change the registration plate or country of registration of the vehicle. The change is irreversible and can only be done once.

If the vignette has already started and you know the vignette authorization code, which is indicated on the payment receipt, log in to the Vignette Management System on the edalnice.cz website. There you can correct up to 2 characters in an incorrect registration plate or correct the country of registration of the vehicle. The change is irreversible and can only be done once. If you use this option, any request for a refund of the time fee paid in accordance with the Terms of Payment will not be granted.

If you purchased a vignette from a point of sale with immediate effect, you have 15 minutes from the date of purchase to correct the incorrect data directly at the point of sale where you bought the vignette (you must provide a receipt for payment).
