The amount of tolls in Ukraine for the year 2023

The quality of roads in Ukraine is slightly lower than European ones. Only in exceptional cases, expressways have a central dividing lane with barriers. All roads are state-owned.

Neither cars nor trucks need to pay for using roads in Ukraine.

However, charging for both categories is already under consideration, as are entry tickets for major city centres. However, such fees have not yet been applied. Currently, there is only one highway in Ukraine that meets the requirements for toll roads. This is a 22.5 km long highway section with three traffic lanes in each direction, equipped with a modern information system, connecting the capital Kyiv with Boryspil International Airport.

In the future, reconstruction and recharging of 6 of the most important Ukrainian highways are planned.

Speed limits in Ukraine

  • Residential zone  – 20 km/h
  • City – 50 km/h
  • Outside the city  – 90 km/h
  • Motorway with dividing line  – 110 km/h
  • Motorway  – 130 km/h

You must always follow road signs.

For example, in Kyiv there are streets where from April 1 to November 1 you can drive at a speed of 80 km/h. In winter, the usual 50 km/h.

Violations of the speed regime are monitored by both the traffic police and the camera system.

Fines are paid by bank transfer or credit to a state bank account. The police may not require you to pay the fine in cash. You can also pay a fine if you have the Diya application.

The camera system monitors the following offenses: running a red light, driving in a lane, speeding.

Exceeding the speed limit by 23 km/h is considered speeding.

Penalties for individual violations in Ukraine

  • Driving on the lane designated for public transport – 680 ₴
  • Passage at the intersection at a red light – 425 ₴ – 510 ₴

If the perpetrator of an offense documented by the camera system pays the imposed fine within 10 working days from the date of notification of the imposition of the fine, he can only pay half of the fine.

If they fail to pay within 15 days, the fine will be doubled and collected.

Penalties for speeding in Ukraine 2023

It would be a bit of an exaggeration to say that in Ukraine, due to the state of the roads, you cannot even exceed the maximum speed limit. But the fact is that many good highways have been created, especially in the vicinity of large cities. Beware of local policemen who often ask for bribes, especially when they see a car with European license plates. Therefore, it is worth knowing the following table of fines, which legislators recently updated and adopted significantly higher rates.

Table of fines (for all types of highways)

  • 10-20 km/h: from 7,886 ₴ to 10,514 ₴
  • 30-50 km/year: 15 771 ₴
  • more than 50 km/h: 3,400 ₴
