TOLL ROADS IN EUROPE. HOW, TO WHOM AND WHERE TO PAY?

Of course, knowing the traffic rules of the country you are going to travel to is good, but not enough.

In Europe, the system of toll roads is widespread. In each country, using toll roads costs differently and is paid for in different ways. The most important are:

A vignette is a paper sticker that is bought at special places. Sticks to the inside of the windshield. Instructions are usually on the back. Be careful, in some cases it is necessary to write on the vignette the number of the vehicle for which it is used. For motorcycles, the vignette must be attached in a place that is difficult to remove.

Electronic vignettes have appeared relatively recently, and countries are actively switching to them. Among them are Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Moldova, Austria and Bulgaria. Then only the payment status is entered in the database and no stickers are issued. When buying via the Internet, an SMS is sent to the phone, when buying at a gas station, a receipt for payment is issued. Movement control is carried out with the help of cameras and mobile transport control stations.

In addition to vignettes, there are turnstiles. The amount is calculated based on the distance traveled and paid at the entrance or exit of this highway or its section.
