In Austria, the toll system is based on a vignette or toll sticker system. The toll sticker has been compulsory on Austria’s motorways and expressways since 1997. All cars, motorbikes, and camper vans up to 3.5 tons technically permissible maximum laden mass (TPMLM) must properly display a toll sticker or have purchased online in time a digital vignette when they drive onto a motorway or expressway1.

Here are the vignette rates for 2024:

  • Motorcycles:
    • Annual Vignette: €38.50
    • 2-month Vignette: €11.50
    • 10-days Vignette: €4.60
    • 1-day Vignette: €3.40
  • Cars, trucks, and motorhomes with a max. TPMLM of up to 3.5 t:
    • Annual Vignette: €96.40
    • 2-month Vignette: €28.90
    • 10-days Vignette: €11.50
    • 1-day Vignette: €8.60

Starting on 1 January 2024, toll fees in Austria will be based on different criteria compared to today: distance, axle configuration, Euro emission class, and CO2 performance and will be levied on motorways and expressways for vehicles with a maximum permissible technical mass of over 3.5 tonnes. Special toll routes will have higher tariffs.
